Contact Lenses

Interested in wearing contact lenses? We have options for nearly everyone and often have diagnostic lenses in your prescription you can wear home the day of your appointment. Our practice has spent the last 35+ years focusing on unique and personalized solutions to your visual needs using contact lenses. We have 2 specialists in the office: Dr. Laura Nennig and Dr. Alyssa (Sherwood) Foster have advanced training to fit even the most difficult cases.

If you’re new to wearing contact lenses, the plethora of options can be overwhelming. After evaluating your needs, we determine the best option to begin with and provide guidance on insertion, removal and lens care. Sometimes, the difference between failure and success is a minor adjustment, and we pride ourselves on ensuring the best fit for your eyes before we finalize the prescription; only after testing driving the lenses, do we let you purchase them as we want you to be successful.

Why You Need a Contact Lens Exam

A standard eye exam checks your overall vision and eye health, but a contact lens exam goes a step further. During your appointment, our optometrists:

• Measure your corneal curvature to ensure a proper lens fit.
• Evaluate your tear film and eye health for safe lens wear and best lens selection for your condition.
• Determine your exact prescription for contacts (different from glasses).
• Discuss lens options based on your visual and comfort needs.

With this extra level of detail, our doctors ensure your lenses provide clear vision without irritation or risk of damage to your eyes.

Our doctors have years of experience working with all types of contacts lenses from the soft bendable ones to all manner of hard lenses. Often people who have been told previously that they couldn’t wear contacts, have been successfully fit in our office. Each January, one or more of them attend the Global Specialty Lens Symposium in Las Vegas to stay current with the latest technology.

We have solutions for all of these situations and more.
Everyone is unique and we want to find the best solution for your situation.

Wear Specialty Lenses for Keratoconus or Corneal Ectasia?

For patients with unique vision needs, we also offer specialty contact lenses. We also fit smaller rigid gas permeable (or RGP) lenses and scleral lenses to treat all kinds of irregular corneal shape issues including keratoconus or post-lasik ectasia (unique shape after having refractive surgery). If you have this and are on our schedule, you’re not alone; we have dozens of patients just like you that we’ve helped.

We take the time to image your eyes and educate you about your condition. Then we followed it with a deepdive into what treatments or lenses will work best for you. Sometimes our patients don’t need anything special and normal glasses or contacts will meet their needs. Other times, treatments like corneal cross linking is explained, or custom lenses are fit. Thankfully, rarely do our patients need anything drastic like a corneal transplant. And if they do, we are here to help you through the process from setting up an appointment with the specialist to following your care for years to come.

Daily Contact Lenses – Convenience & Comfort

Many of our patients love the ease and hygiene of daily disposable contact lenses. Whether you wear contact lenses just for special occasions or daily, they are convientent. With fresh lenses every day, there’s no cleaning solution or storage needed, making them perfect for busy lifestyles and reducing the risk of infection. We carry a wide selection of single use lenses from trusted brands including toric lenses for astigmatism and multifocal lenses for presbyopia to match your vision needs and comfort preferences.

Are your contact lenses drying your eyes out?

Dry eye is no longer a barrier to contact lenses wear. Products such as Dailies Total, Precision 1 or Total 30 lenses, have been a game changer in the world of dry eye with Alcon’s water gradient technology and allows those who couldn’t tolerate contacts anymore, hours of clear and comfortable vision. (Make sure you’re not doing any of these bad habits.) We also work with scleral lenses (larger rigid lenses) to help those with the most severe dryness symptoms maintain comfort throughout the day. If your lenses are dry at the end of the day, you don’t have to suffer anymore!

A contact lens fitting ensures your lenses fit the unique shape of your eyes comfortably and safely. During your appointment, your eye doctor measures your cornea, evaluates your tear film, and recommends the best type of contact lens based on your prescription, eye health, and lifestyle.

No. A contact lens prescription includes additional measurements, such as the lens curvature and diameter, because contact lenses rest directly on the surface of your eye. A proper fitting is necessary to ensure clear vision, comfort, and healthy lens wear.

We offer a wide variety of contact lenses to meet different vision needs, including daily disposable lenses, monthly replacement lenses, soft contact lenses, toric lenses for astigmatism, multifocal lenses, rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses, hybrid lenses, and custom scleral lenses for more complex eye conditions.

Yes. Many patients with astigmatism wear contact lenses successfully. Specialized toric lenses are designed to provide clear, stable vision, and your eye doctor will determine which option provides the best fit and comfort.

Yes. Advances in contact lens technology have made it possible for many people with dry eyes to wear contacts comfortably. Depending on your needs, your doctor may recommend daily disposable lenses, specialty lenses, or scleral lenses that help keep the eyes hydrated throughout the day.

Scleral lenses are larger custom-designed lenses that rest on the white part of the eye rather than the cornea. They create a cushion of moisture over the eye and are often recommended for patients with keratoconus, severe dry eye, corneal irregularities, or other complex vision conditions.

Most contact lens fittings take between 30 and 60 minutes. If you’re wearing contacts for the first time, your visit may include additional time for training on how to insert, remove, and properly care for your lenses.

Absolutely. Our team provides personalized instruction to help first-time wearers learn how to safely insert, remove, clean, and care for their contact lenses. We’ll make sure you’re comfortable before you leave the office.

Replacement schedules depend on the type of lenses you wear. Some lenses are replaced daily, while others are designed for two-week or monthly wear. Always follow your doctor’s recommendations and never wear lenses longer than prescribed to help reduce the risk of eye infections.

Even if your vision seems unchanged, annual contact lens exams are important. Your eyes and prescription can change over time, and regular exams help ensure your lenses continue to fit properly while allowing your doctor to monitor your overall eye health.

Yes. Most people who wear glasses are excellent candidates for contact lenses. During your contact lens exam, your eye doctor will discuss your vision goals, daily activities, and eye health to recommend the best lenses for your lifestyle.

If your contacts cause redness, irritation, blurry vision, or discomfort, remove them and contact your eye doctor. Continuing to wear uncomfortable lenses can increase the risk of eye irritation or infection. An evaluation can determine if you need a different lens material, fit, or prescription.
