Dr. John Burton grew up in Overland Park, Kansas but has been serving patients of Missouri since graduating from Illinois College of Optometry in 2018. He is excited to serve patients in the Lees Summit community for the first time! Previously, Dr. Burton spent time at Vision Source practices across the metro including offices in Harrisonville, Pleasant Hill, Independence and downtown Kansas City. Dr. John provides high quality vision care and strives to make enhancements to your vision each and every visit.
Prior to optometry school, Dr. John graduated from the University of Central Missouri where he spent time on the football team and the school’s Honors College. He then earned his optometry doctorate from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago in 2018. His medical internship was completed at the Memphis and Tallahassee VA hospitals along with a private practice in south KC.
Dr. John Burton specializes in comprehensive eye care including glaucoma management, cataract and LASIK surgery co-management, contact lenses, diagnosis and treatment of eye disease (diabetic retinopathy, age related macular degeneration, & corneal disease), pediatric care, and low vision. Dr. Burton began with Eyecare Associates of Lee’s Summit in 2023 and immediately fell in love with the spirit of the practice. He looks forward to serving patients for years to come.

Fun Facts
- Avid sports fan. Dr. Burton played multiple sports growing up and has always had a passion for various sports, most notably football, basketball and hockey. But you’d be surprised about some others he loves! You can find him most weekends spending time cheering on local teams, especially Patrick Mahomes and the KC Chiefs.
- Pizza is my comfort food, but I also keep a running top 15 list of barbecue restaurants in Kansas City.
- If you can keep him sitting long enough, Dr. John loves movies, television or even a book. Give him suggestions, he always needs them!
- Dr. Burton relaxes the best when on vacation, especially when there is a beach and water very close by.
- He has a black lab / aussie mix named Sadie.
